Good Things to Eat

As we have said on numerous occasions, Turkey is full of beautiful produce. This was part of our meal (we had a guest) of roast veges - sweet red pepper, eggplant, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, and potatoes. Yummy!! Along with bread fresh from the baker, olive oil for dipping, and fresh figs with feta, walnuts and honey for dessert.

Stuffed fresh trout we bought at the market. They did gut them, but always leave the heads. I don't really like those beady little eyes staring back.

Sour cherry cobbler. Took forever to pit those suckers, but the result was worth it. The cherries are just about finished, with mostly the sour ones left at the markets. They make a juice here from them that is really good too. We buy "Cappy" which is Minute Maid.

Fresh figs are just coming into the markets. The purple colored ones are huge, larger than a purple plum, and the green ones about the size of an apricot. They both have a great taste, slightly different. We found a fig tree on the side of the road not too far from out house with ripening purple figs, so have been picking them when we drive by. Sort of like picking blackberries or wild plums on the side of the road. There are fig orchards, but this one was most likely the result of a bird or some other animal.
